Group 1 - Location Reccie for Wilderness Wood

On the 5th of December we visited Wilderness Wood in East Sussex in order to carry out our location reccie. We thought this would be a conventional location for our filming task since the close tree line made the idea of a hiding creature easier to believe since it would have a lot of places to hide. We carried out the location reccie in order to prepare for our AS filming task and get ideas on the subject of the opening of a horror film.

We wandered around the woods for around 20 minutes looking for the location we thought we would need these included natural looking paths, navigable denser trees, as well as a clearing in order to find these we had to venture of into less tamed areas of the woods, as we found potential locations we took photos and later used these to compare locations we also used these photos to remember where the areas were located.

When considering the areas we discussed how the areas would effect the overall film for example we discussed how the lighting could effect the mise-en-scene of the clips and how we could use props such as signs in the woods for visual effect and how we could connote danger using path boundaries for example when the character goes of the path she is shown to be scared and vulnerable.

We carried out a risk assessment which we did on each location this generally consisted of assessing dangerous roots and branches, then muddy areas and marshy rivers. This meant that precautions were to include: choosing the clearer pathways and forest zones, to prevent tripping; walking every route before running through it during filming and in order to check for problems; finding clear pathways through swampier/marshier areas and having more than one person at each place to reduce chance of injury and provide aid in the case of somebody being hurt.

When filming we tried various different shots in order to get a wide selection for editing, since this is one reason which ended up letting our last piece down since some clips didn't work and we ended up having problems with continuity towards the end of the piece because of this; because of this we ended up having an easier time editing since if one shot didn't work at one point it may have worked in another area and we also decided to get 'filler' shots in case of bad continuity; we also took this further and filmed shots over using different lines of dialogue and facial expressions in case we wanted to use more than one or change it completely.

When filming we knew there may have been problems due to the fact we were trying to stitch different real life areas together using unrelated footage and this is why we thought we may need 'filler' shots to compensate for potential lack of continuity between.
