Quick Update

Today we had a lesson which focused on character exposition, storyboarding, and the ideological discourse which could be interpreted through the shots chosen.

  • We created a basic character profile for our protagonist: White, male, young. A sense of authority is given through the cultural marking derived from a patriarchal society.

  • Using storyboarding, we designed a series of montage shots, which included showing movement: Tracking, pans, zooms and reveals- we learned how these shots are drawn.

  • Through the use of images linked to the disturbed mind, like in Seven (Fincher, 1995) it is easy to demonstrate mental instability.

  • Midshots of the male cowering in front of a female creates an emergent ideology which conflicts with the hegemonic view of masculinity, tracking back allows the nature of the interaction easily.
